As with many of the golf courses on the Costa del Sol, Valderrama was designed by Robert Trent Jones.  However the 17th hole bears the unmistakable stamp of Severiano Ballesteros, who was responsible for remodelling it.  Valderrama Golf is considered to be one of the best golf courses on the international circuit, Valderrama Golf course was chosen as the venue of the 1997 edition of the Ryder Cup and various fixtures in the Volvo Masters series. 

Valderrama golf course may see like a gentle and agreeable course at first sight, it is actually very hard and its difficulty can test the nerves of the calmest of players. The fairways have been thought out with care and, apart from the elevated greens, there are also nearly a hundred bunkers dotted throughout the course. One of the most popular holes is the breathtaking 489 meters fourth, with a waterfall next to the elevated green that only world-class players are capable of reaching in two.

7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS GOLF TOUR OF SPAIN’S COSTA DEL SOL

DAY 1:  Scheduled arrival at Malaga Airport.  Drive 45 minutes to the Marbella area your base for the next six nights.

 

DAY 2:  Drive 40 minutes to play Sotogrande La Reserva Golf Club, the latest jewel in the crown that makes up the cluster of magnificent golf courses in the greater Sotogrande region.   Completed in August 2003, this Cabell Robinson design (who also had a hand in Valderrama) has spectacular views and four magnificent lakes.

 

DAY 3:  Drive 45 minutes to play Valderrama Golf Club one of Europe’s top courses, host to the 1997 Ryder Cup and home of the Volvo Masters.

 

DAY 4:  Drive 45 minutes to play the Old Course at San Roque Golf Club considered by most to be one of the top three golf courses on the Costa Del Sol.

 

DAY 5:  Short drive to play Marbella Club Golf Resort, this scenic course with views down to the straits of Gibraltar offers rich green fairways bordered by olive and pine trees. 

 

DAY 6:  Drive 45 minutes to Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, opened in 1964 and still one of Europe’s best.  It’s often referred to as the “Old” course to differentiate it from its younger neighbor, Valderrama.  The Robert Trent Jones design features mature pine, oak, cork, palm and eucalyptus trees along with plenty of water hazards.  The fairways are immaculately manicured, but beware of the rough. 

 

DAY 7:  Drive 45 minutes to Malaga Airport for departure.
